For the past five years, In Your Ear Recording Studios and VCU's Department of Music have hosted the area's top classes in recording technology. These high level classes target college students and professionals interested in professional audio production. But what about younger people interested in recording? Last summer, we offered a unique opportunity for rising high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates. And this year we're doing it again! Introducing The Shockoe Summer Sessions! A two part project starting with a Battle of the Bands and culminating in a two week recording session for each of the winning artists, taught in In Your Ear's prestigious studios, the very studios where Chris Brown's Grammy award winning R&B album of the year F.A.M.E.

Advanced Recording Camps

The Shockoe Summer Sessions is a two week camp focusing on the music production for one of Central Virginia's top bands. The student participants will learn micing techniques, production tips, use of music software such as Pro Tools and much more. The costs for participation is $850 (which includes lunch) and the sessions will last from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Friday for two weeks. Each band and session will be overseen by a professional producer experienced in the genre of musical focus along with In Your Ear staff engineers and faculty. Music style requests and two week time slots are available on a first come first serve basis.

The Sessions will be a unique two week experience working with professionals that participating students will never forget. Not only will the result be commercial available recordings, but the connections and chance to put this type of experience on a college application cannot be duplicated.
